After a short illness, Mr. William Frew Kennedy, of Hillside, Benger, passed away at the Harvey District Hospital on Friday morning last. The late Mr. Kennedy was born at Mount Gambler, South Australia, 71 years ago and at an early age, went with his parents to the Wimmera district to settle. When about twenty, he came to this State where he was engaged for many years on the Goldfields, condensing water. Later he selected land at Cunderdin, here he was joined by other Wimmera farmers and it is believed that they were the first settlers to take up land in this district.
In 1920 Mr. Kennedy went to England, where he visited the Empire Exhibition at Wembley. Upon his return from England Mr. Kennedy in 1925, married Sister Vera Whalan-Taylor, who, for many years, was Sister-in-charge of the Perth Public Hospital, and they lived for two years at Nedlands. Leaving Nedlands, Mr. Kennedy came to Benger where he resided until the time of his passing. The homestead, “Hillside,” is a well-known property in the Benger district, but no more well-known than its owner who was a very highly respected citizen. Besides his widow, Mr. Kennedy leaves two children, Miss Vera and Master Lance, to mourn their sad loss. The remains were interred, in the Church of England portion of the Harvey cemetery on Saturday afternoon last; Rev. E. A. Codd officiating. Chief mourners were Mrs. W. Kennedy (widow), Miss Vera Kennedy (daughter), Master Lance Kennedy (son), Mr. and Mrs. Lance Taylor (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Miss Dulcie Taylor (sister-in-law). Pall bearers were Mr. H. V. Shearn, M.L.A., Mr. Stephen Fry, Messrs A. H. Smith and W. R. Eckersley (representing Harvey Road Board), Messrs B. H. Bednall and J. R. Thew (representing Harvey Masonic Lodge), Mr. L. Pearson and Mr. S. Smithen (Kalgoorlie). Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs Wm. Brittain and Son.

Marriage of Miss Vera Taylor, 1925.
Miss Vera Taylor, one of the most popular and efficient sisters at the Perth Hospital, has said good-bye to the institution, and is now in the throes of trousseau hunting. Her marriage with Mr. William Frew Kennedy will take place on September 19 at St. Barnabas’ Church, Leederville, and a delightful tour of Ceylon and India has been planned for the honeymoon. Before leaving the hospital Miss Taylor was given several little farewell parties, including a much enjoyed fancy dress evening by the nurses when the opportunity was taken to present her with a beautiful doulton bowl. Her colleagues also entertained her at a much enjoyed supper party at the Moana, and to mark the happy occasion Miss Taylor was asked to accept a beautiful hand-painted sweet dish.
