Gordon Hughan (c1852 – 1929) – Obituary

General regret was expressed when it became known that Mr Gordon Hughan, an old resident, had passed away at the Yarloop hospital on July 29th, at the age of 77 years. Known wherever a mill was erected the late Gordon Hughan, with his brothers Pete and Dave, as saw filers, built up a name that will never be forgotten in the timber industry. The deceased leaves a son Reginald, who is employed at Yarloop, to carry on where he had worked for so many years.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, July 31st, from the Yarloop Hospital, and was very largely attended by friends of the deceased, who had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one who was esteemed by all. The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Cookernup general cemetery. The service at the graveside was performed by the Rev. M. Stanfield, of Harvey.

At the conclusion of the service by the Rev. Stanfield, a Masonic service was conducted by Mr Frank Banner, who was assisted by Mr H. Dennis, and a large number of brother masons from other lodges paid a last tribute to their late brother. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. M. Heeney, A. J. Thomson, J. Gerdner, G. Scott, W.
