Ellen Fowler nee Hough (1843-1925) Obituary

A very well-known identity, Mrs. Ellen Fowler, passed away on Monday last at her daughter’s (Mrs. Hunter) residence in Clifton-st. The deceased, who was 82 years of age, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hough, and was born on the bank of the Collie river.

At 18 years of age she married Mr. Richard Arthur Fowler, now deceased. She had eleven children, nine of whom are living. Mr. Joseph Hough, and Mrs. Sarah Morgan (Meckering) are brother and sister respectively of the deceased, as was also the late Mrs. George Teede and the late Mrs. Edward Higgins. There are 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren living.

The funeral took place on Wednesday and the remains were interred in the old cemetery, the Rev. D. Dundas officiating. The chief mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. E. Gardiner (daughter and son-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. J. Archer Fowler (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. James Fowler (son and daughter-in-law), Miss M. A. Fowler (daughter), Mr. and Mrs. John Hurst (daughter and son-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. F. Wilks (daughter and son-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter (daughter and son-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fowler (son and daughter-in-law).

The pall bearers were: Messrs C. D. Baker, F. S. Caporn, J. Elton, J. O. Oldham, V. S. Delaporte, and H. Earl.
