John Moss (c1860-1912) Obituary

The funeral of the late Mr. John Ralph Moss, traffic manager for Millars’ Karri and Jarrah Co. at Yarloop (son of Mr. and Mrs. Moss, sen. of Armadale, both of whom are still alive), took place on Saturday last at the Catholic Cemetery, Bunbury, and was largely attended by the relatives and numerous friends of the deceased.

The deceased gentleman had been for over 30 years in the employment of Millars’ Company, and was widely known and respected in the South-west, especially by those engaged in the timber industry. He died after a short illness, and the news of his death came as a shock to his many friends, for he had always been in the enjoyment of perfect health. Mr. Moss was 52 years of age.

The lengthy cortege left his late residence, Yarloop, and proceeded to Bunbury by the 6.40 a.m. train, where a short service was held in St. Patrick’s R.C. Church and thence to the Bunbury Cemetery. The deceased leaves a widow and five children to mourn their loss. The chief mourners were Mrs. J. Moss (widow), John and Ernest Moss (sons), Mrs. C. Stephens, and the Misses Maude and Thelma Moss (daughters), and Messrs. Ernest and James Moss (brothers). The pall-bearers were Messrs. Findlay, Toll, Quick, McGrath and H. Pringle (Yarloop) and A. Scott (Worsley). The carriers were Messrs. W. Fowler, W. Archibald, T. Ryan and W. Budd.

The Rev. Father Fahey assisted by Father Masterson officiated at the graveside and after the service referred in feeling terms to the sterling qualities of the deceased and the high esteem and popularity he enjoyed amongst his numerous friends. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. W. Brittain.
